As of March 2024, tech company Orkes has officially been part of the IMDA Spark Programme. Orkes is best known for Conductor – the ultimate workflow orchestration platform for building distributed systems. This revolutionary platform ensures that workflows are orchestrated reliably through various pieces in applications, such as code, functions, application programming interfaces (APIs), and more.

Orchestration is key to application modernization and running applications at scale. While not a new concept, Conductor was the first open source software (OSS) that brought workflow orchestration at scale to the mass developer audience. Conductor also serves to be especially useful when it comes to hybrid cloud orchestration use cases. Hence, with more companies investing in multi-cloud strategy, platforms like Conductor become a key part of their platform stacks.

Singapore’s Impact on Orkes

Orkes co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Viren Baraiya, recognizes Singapore as a strategic hub for Orkes to expand within the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region due to its well-populated and mature local tech community.

Being part of IMDA’s Spark Programme has amplified Orkes’ presence amongst various government agencies and local companies – allowing Orkes to facilitate deeper engagement with the local tech community and tech leaders. This opportunity strengthens Orkes’ reputation as a key player within APAC, which is extremely valuable for Orkes as a start-up company.

According to CTO Baraiya, there are two main objectives when it comes to entrepreneurship in tech – creating value for society, and always working to improve the current state of technology.

Through IMDA Spark programme partnership, CTO Baraiya aims to focus on product engineering, community, and make Conductor the best platform for application development. He partners with Orkes Chief Product Officer (CPO), Dilip Lukose, to execute the product vision, and works closely with the open source community to expand the community around Conductor.

Orkes’ Impact on Developers & Singapore

Given Orkes’ global portfolio, namely Foxtel from Australia and United Wholesale Mortgage from the United States, Orkes has proven capable in providing immense value to many companies with Conductor. Through this Orkes platform, companies can streamline their process of moving from antiquated monolithic architectures to microservices, applications, and event-driven architectures.

Conductor improves productivity and efficiency in application development, making it a vital tool for modern enterprises – thoroughly revolutionising the way developers approach application development and orchestration.

With Conductor, developers are able to write task workers in multiple programming languages and combine different languages within the same workflow. This flexibility reduces development time significantly, allowing developers to be equipped with the best tools for each task.

The process from ideation to production can now be further streamlined with the help of Conductor’s powerful workflow creation user interface (UI) and reusability of workflows and tasks. Hence, developers are able to bring new features and products to the market faster, driving their competitive edge.

Conductor supports deployment on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and on-premises. This flexibility allows developers to use their preferred cloud provider – optimising cost and performance.

Conductor’s ability to scale infinitely ensures that it can handle expanding use cases and business growth. It has been battle-tested to manage millions of workflows, providing reliability and performance at any scale.

Large organisations stand to benefit from Conductor’s customizable access controls (e.g. AI models, prompt templates, etc). This ensures data privacy with role-based access control (RBAC), which is crucial for maintaining security and compliance across departments.

Conductor’s built-in logging and auditing features ensure the security, auditability, and safety of AI interactions, giving developers and businesses peace of mind.

These features empower developers to build and scale distributed applications by delivering high levels of observability, security, and durability. Developers can modernise current applications and tech stacks efficiently, focusing on building and connecting applications at scale with visibility and easy debugging of workflows.

With Orkes’ expertise in tech and the industry itself, Singapore’s digital economy is foreseen to thrive even further. As a part of the IMDA Spark Programme, Orkes hopes to continue fulfilling their mission – empowering developers to build and scale distributed applications with high levels of observability, security, and durability.
