Welcome to the May edition of Orkes Monthly Highlights!
The May edition covers a lot of exciting product and event updates.
Let’s dive in!
The Join tasks are used with the fork and dynamic fork operators to combine the parallel execution paths. Previously, you could join the tasks only by referring to the task reference names within the parameter joinOn [ ].
It is now enhanced with the support of JoinScript. The Join Script allows you to join the task by specifying a script. It can also return the join task result as composed by the script. For example, the script can be defined in a way to return the join task to an in-progress state and remains until the pending joins are completed. Learn more.
Previously, task input templates were part of task definitions and wouldn’t be visible in the workflow definition. But with the latest Conductor version, you can now view task input templates as part of the workflow definition. These values will be supplied for each task invocation and can be overridden from the workflow definition. Have a look through our documentation on how to pass inputs using the task input template.
May 9, 2023: Virtual
The second Conductor meetup of the year, co-hosted by the Netflix & Orkes team, was held virtually on 9th May 2023. We were excited to have Mummoorthy Murugesan and Yang Zhang from Normalyze, Apurva Kansara from Netflix & Viren Baraiya from Orkes as the speakers.
The meetup started with a walkthrough on workflow authoring and debugging using the Conductor UI from Viren.
Viren’s session was followed by an insightful talk from team Normalyze, where Mummorthy and Yang explained how Conductor helped them seamlessly manage their workflows. They also presented the use cases implemented with Conductor, their previous challenges, and how Conductor served as a perfect solution for Normalyze.
The meetup concluded with Apurva’s talk that gave an in-depth understanding of the Netflix Engineering Team’s work around media analysis, asset generation, etc., and how Conductor proved to be the right solution for their needs.
